Aging In Place Planning

Numerous studies have indicated that a high percentage of seniors would prefer to remain in their homes as they grow older—in other words, to “age in place.”

Interestingly, homeowners at an earlier stage (aged 55-75) are among those making household modifications for this purpose. These include adding automated features like a programmable thermostat or voice activation, and, in bathrooms, grab bars and higher toilets.

If you are considering this option, either for yourself or for an aging family member, a recent HomeAdvisor report listed the most common remodels:

  • Add Lever-Style Doorknobs
  • Add Pull-Out Shelves
  • Add a Smart Fire Detection System
  • Add a Smart Security System
  • Replace Stone/Tile with Carpet/Wood
