5 Ways to Age in Place More Safely with AI!

Being a caregiver often is a 24-hour job because even when you aren’t with your loved one, you are probably worried about them.   Although technology is unlikely to completely replace a human caregiver, we think that using technology can alleviate caregiver worry and make life easier (and safer!) for everyone.

Here are 5 tools that we thought could be helpful:

1. Fall-Detection Sensors; Fall detections sensors can automatically detect changes in movement and alert caregivers.   No button pressing is necessary!

2. Smart Medication Dispensers:  Automated pillboxes with locking compartments and audible alerts reduce missed doses and double doses. Some devices even notify a caregiver if a dose isn’t taken.

3.Smart speakers: Smart speakers can set reminders, make hands-free calls, play music, answer questions and control lights or thermostats.  This could be helpful for seniors with vision or mobility issues.

4. Video monitors:  In-home video monitoring is a great way to keep a watch on your loved one with dementia to ensure they’re safe.  Remote monitoring can be set up inside or even outside the home as needed.

5.  Location tracking devices.  These devices are important because when dementia progresses, it is common for dementia patients to wander and become lost. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, six in 10 people with dementia will wander and become lost or confused.
