The start of a New Year is an opportunity to reflect on the past year and to set realistic attainable goals.
At first, the intent of this post was to focus on resolutions that would be helpful to a caregiver, but we think that these goals can apply to anyone.
- Prioritize and focus on YOUR care and mental health, EVERYDAY. 5 minutes is better than 0 minutes.
- Build a network for support, NO ONE can do everything alone.
- Set boundaries, it is OK to say NO.
- Use technology to simplify tasks, SEE ABOVE.
- Get enough sleep.
- Educate yourself and create a life plan, ONE step at a time: make a budget, talk to your financial advisor, discuss your planning with your estate/elder law attorney. We all might have a plan, but typically only proactive plans reflect your wishes.
- Focus on the positive, being positive can make a HUGE difference to you and to those around you.
- Grow something green inside your home (I love this idea and have tried it. Unfortunately, I am not very good with inside plants, so growing a plant is not on my resolution list this year. But if it is on yours, I hope that your green growing is more successful than mine).
